Add your shifts, set your rate and overtime rules — get total hours, overtime split and gross pay instantly.
Enter shifts as 24-hour times (e.g. 09:00 to 18:00). Overnight shifts are supported: an end time earlier than the start is treated as the next day.
How the work hours calculator works
Add one row per shift with start time, end time and unpaid break minutes. The calculator totals your hours, splits regular vs overtime hours (overtime = hours beyond your daily threshold, default 8), and multiplies by your hourly rate and overtime multiplier to give gross pay.
Who uses it
Freelancers tracking billable hours across a week.
Shift workers checking overtime on timesheets.
Employers verifying payroll totals quickly.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate my work hours?
Enter each shift's start and end time plus unpaid break minutes. The calculator subtracts breaks, totals the hours, and applies your overtime rules automatically.
What counts as overtime?
By default, hours beyond 8 per day count as overtime at 1.5x pay. You can change both the threshold and the multiplier above to match your contract or local law.
Does it handle overnight shifts?
Yes. If the end time is earlier than the start time (for example 22:00 to 06:00), it is treated as an overnight shift ending the next day.
Is this timesheet calculator free?
Yes. It is 100% free with no signup required.
How work hours and overtime are calculated
Payroll time math has three steps: 1. each shift's length = end time − start time − unpaid breaks; 2. weekly total = the sum of shift lengths; 3. overtime = hours above the legal standard, paid at a premium. Unpaid breaks are the step most people forget — a 9-hour presence with a 1-hour lunch is 8 payable hours, not 9.
Worked example: a week with Saturday overtime
Five shifts of 8:30–17:30 with a 1-hour unpaid break: (17.5 − 8.5) − 1 = 8 hours/day, × 5 = 40 hours. Add Saturday 9:00–13:00 = 4 hours → weekly total 44 hours. Against a 40-hour standard, overtime = 4 hours; at a $20 hourly rate with time-and-a-half, overtime pay = 4 × 20 × 1.5 = $120. Overnight shifts wrap past midnight: 22:00→06:00 = (6 + 24) − 22 = 8 hours before breaks.
Practical tips and limits
In Saudi Arabia, the standard work week is 48 hours (8/day) and overtime is paid at 150% of the hourly rate under the Labour Law — this calculator's overtime threshold is adjustable for exactly that reason. Convert salary to hourly rate as monthly salary ÷ 30 ÷ 8 (the Saudi convention) when checking overtime pay. And keep records: the calculator totals your hours, but in any pay dispute, dated timesheets — even a simple daily note — are what actually get wages corrected.
Ramadan working hours in Saudi Arabia
During Ramadan, Saudi Labour Law reduces working hours to 6 per day / 36 per week for Muslim employees — in both the public and private sectors — without any reduction in pay. Overtime during Ramadan is still paid at 150%, now calculated against the shorter 36-hour threshold, so an hour that was ordinary time in Sha'ban becomes overtime in Ramadan. The private sector typically implements this as a straight 6-hour day; shift workers should confirm the exact schedule with HR, since operational roles sometimes redistribute rather than reduce hours. If your timesheet spans the Ramadan boundary, split the calculation: pre-Ramadan days against the normal threshold, Ramadan days against 36 hours — this calculator's adjustable overtime threshold handles exactly that.
Frequently asked questions
How is overtime calculated in Saudi Arabia?
Under Saudi Labour Law the standard week is 48 hours (8 per day), and overtime hours are paid at 150% of the normal hourly rate — effectively time-and-a-half. Set the calculator's overtime threshold to 48 hours and the overtime rate to 1.5× to match.
Should lunch breaks count as work hours?
No — unpaid meal breaks are excluded from payable hours. A 9-hour day with a 1-hour unpaid lunch is 8 work hours. Only breaks you are paid for (short rest breaks in some contracts) count toward the total.
How do I convert my monthly salary to an hourly rate?
In Saudi Arabia the standard convention is monthly salary ÷ 30 days ÷ 8 hours. A SAR 6,000 salary → 6,000 ÷ 240 = SAR 25/hour. (In the US, the equivalent is annual salary ÷ 2,080 hours.) Multiply by 1.5 for the overtime hourly rate.
