How to use

Press Start and practice along with the steady click. The first beat of each bar plays a higher-pitched accent. Drag the slider or use the −/+ buttons to change tempo, or tap the Tap tempo button in rhythm to set the BPM by feel. Choose a time signature from 1/8 to 8/8 for odd meters.

FAQs

How accurate is this online metronome?

It uses the Web Audio clock with lookahead scheduling, so timing stays accurate even when the tab is in the background.

What BPM range does it support?

20 to 300 BPM, adjustable with the slider, +/- buttons, or tap tempo.

Can I change the time signature?

Yes — choose 1 to 8 beats per bar. The first beat of each bar is accented with a higher click.

Is the online metronome free?

Yes, 100% free with no signup and no download. It works offline once the page is loaded.

What BPM should I start practicing at?

Start at 60–80 BPM — slow enough to play the passage perfectly. Increase by 5 BPM only when it feels easy. Most musicians practice far too fast; the metronome's job is to expose rushing, not to race.

What does a 4/4 time signature mean?

Four beats per bar, with a quarter note getting one beat — the default of most pop, rock, and classical music. The metronome accents beat 1 of each bar (TICK-tock-tock-tock) so you always feel where the bar starts. 3/4 gives three beats per bar, the waltz feel.

Why do some metronome apps drift out of time?

They schedule clicks with ordinary software timers, which the operating system can delay by tens of milliseconds under load — and the errors accumulate. This tool uses the Web Audio API's sample-accurate clock, scheduling each click ahead of time so drift cannot build up.
