Exam Countdown Timer
One timer is not enough when you have five papers in three weeks. Add every exam below - each gets its own live card, color-coded by urgency: green means plenty of time (over 14 days), amber means it is getting close (3-14 days), red means urgent (under 3 days). Your exam list is saved in this browser, so it survives refreshes.
Turn days left into study sessions
Take the days on the card and multiply by how many focus sessions you can do per day - that is your real study budget. 21 days x 3 sessions a day = 63 sessions. Students who plan sessions this way stop cramming and start finishing early.
The 25/5/15 rhythm
Work 25 minutes, rest 5, and take a longer 15-30 minute break after four rounds. Pair it with the free Pomodoro timer while the exam cards above keep the big picture in view.
What is a countdown timer?
A countdown timer measures the time remaining until a specific future moment and displays it as days, hours, minutes, and seconds ticking down in real time. Unlike a stopwatch that counts up from zero, a countdown timer starts from the distance between now and your target date and shrinks toward zero.
How to use this countdown timer
Choose the date of your event with the date picker, set the time (midnight by default), and optionally name your event so the page shows a personal title like "My wedding" or "Final exam". Press Start countdown and the display updates every second - days, hours, minutes and seconds all ticking live. Your target is saved in this browser, so if you close the tab and return later, the timer resumes with the correct remaining time.
Popular countdown occasions
Birthdays and anniversaries: build excitement as the big day approaches.
Exams and deadlines: a visible ticking clock keeps study sessions focused.
Travel and holidays: count down to vacations, flights, and festivals like Eid or New Year.
Product launches: share the countdown with your audience for launch-day hype.
Fitness goals: track days left until a marathon, competition, or weigh-in.
How many days until the big holidays?
Some dates are worth circling on the calendar. Here are the next big ones - set any of them in the timer above and watch the days melt away:
Christmas 2026 - Friday, December 25, 2026.
New Year 2027 - Friday, January 1, 2027.
Ramadan 2027 - expected to begin around Monday, February 8, 2027.
Eid al-Fitr 2027 - expected around Tuesday, March 9, 2027.
Eid al-Adha 2027 - expected around Sunday, May 16, 2027.
Diwali 2027 - Friday, October 29, 2027.
Islamic dates depend on the moon sighting and can shift by a day in your country - treat them as "how many sleeps until" estimates, then let the timer do the precise counting once the date is confirmed.
Why countdowns help you stay motivated
Psychologists call it the "goal-gradient effect": as a visible target gets closer, motivation and effort increase. A live countdown turns an abstract future date into something you can watch shrinking, which makes long waits feel shorter and deadlines feel real. Students, athletes, and event planners all use countdowns to keep momentum through long preparations.

Countdown timer, explained
How do I set a countdown timer?
Pick a date and time in the future using the date and time fields, give your countdown a name if you like, then press Start. The timer shows remaining days, hours, minutes and seconds updating every second.
Can I count down to a birthday or holiday?
Yes. Enter any future date — birthdays, holidays, weddings, exams, product launches — and the timer counts down to the exact moment.
Does the countdown keep running if I close the tab?
The countdown is calculated from your target date and time, so reopening the page recalculates the remaining time accurately. Your last target is remembered in this browser.
What happens when the countdown reaches zero?
The display switches to a celebration message showing your event has arrived. You can then set a new countdown.
Is the countdown timer free?
Yes. It is completely free with no signup and no limits.
Does the countdown show seconds?
Yes. The display ticks live every second, showing days, hours, minutes and seconds until your event. It works in any modern browser - no app, no signup.
Can I track multiple exams at once?
Yes. Use the Exam Countdown Timer section above to add each exam with its date. Every exam gets its own live card - green when you have plenty of time (over 14 days), amber when it is getting close (3-14 days), red when it is urgent (under 3 days) - and the list is saved in your browser.
How do I share my countdown with someone?
Start any countdown and a shareable link appears under the timer. Send it to friends or family - opening the link starts the same countdown on their device, with no account needed.
When is Eid al-Fitr 2027?
Eid al-Fitr 2027 is expected around Tuesday, March 9, 2027, at the end of Ramadan. The exact date can shift by a day depending on the moon sighting in your country. Set it in the timer above to count down live.
How a countdown timer calculates the difference
A countdown is simple subtraction done repeatedly: target timestamp minus now, both measured in milliseconds, recomputed every second (or faster for smooth animation). There's no accumulating error because each tick re-derives the display from the two absolute timestamps rather than counting down from the previous display.
The breakdown: total seconds = difference ÷ 1000; days = floor(total ÷ 86400); hours = floor(remainder ÷ 3600); minutes = floor(remainder ÷ 60); seconds = what's left. Timezone handling matters: the target is interpreted in your browser's local timezone unless you specify otherwise, which is why a countdown set on one device can read differently on another in a different zone.
Worked example: it's Monday 2026-10-19 10:30 and your target is Friday 2026-12-25 00:00. The difference is 66 days and 13.5 hours, so the timer shows 66d 13h 30m 0s — and one second later, 66d 13h 29m 59s. Every tick is a fresh subtraction, so the display can never drift.
Practical tips: a tab timer can't notify you if the tab is closed — set a separate phone reminder for anything critical, and double-check AM/PM when entering the target. Limitation: the countdown trusts your device clock completely; if your system time is wrong, the countdown is wrong by exactly the same amount.
Edge cases that break naive countdowns:daylight-saving transitions make some days 23 or 25 hours long — a countdown spanning a DST change computed in "days × 24h" will be off by an hour unless it works in absolute timestamps (which this one does). Leap seconds (occasionally added to UTC) are ignored by virtually all consumer timers; the drift is one second, irrelevant outside astronomy and finance. The subtler issue is timer throttling: browsers slow down setInterval in background tabs to save battery, so a tab-based countdown can visibly lag if you switch away for hours — though each tick recomputes from absolute timestamps, the display only refreshes when the tab regains focus, jumping to the correct value instantly. For mission-critical countdowns (exams, auctions), use a dedicated app with notifications rather than a browser tab, and always verify the target timezone — "midnight" means nothing without one.
